Wind and Winter

Updated: Apr 14, 2023

Week One

Minnesota winter decided to arrive with sub zero wind CHILLS this week.

My hip flexor was continuing to bother, so I hit the internet in search of some rehab help and stumbled on Eliud Kipchoge’s Killer Core Workout demonstrated by James Dunne on YouTube. So far I’ve done this workout twice and am enjoying the challenge. I’ve also been doing a dynamic warm up before every run and then stretching, plus using a foam roller and lacrosse ball afterwards.

Okay, so the weather was NOT in my favor this week. I cranked out a slow 12 on the treadmill. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime!

The weather continued to be cold and windy throughout the week and I still had to get my speedwork in...off to the treadmill again. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to maintain my pace for the 3 mile tempo run but I fought the mental game by breaking it down into small goals. Run the first mile, make it another half mile, 2 down and only one to go, then half a mile, 4 tenths, 3, 2, 1, DONE! Crazy thing is that after this run my heart rate looked great! Last week my stats looked like I was on the verge of a heart attack! Maybe I was finally getting some fitness back. At the conclusion of week one I was feeling optimistic about this training cycle.
