Our democracy has potential. But right now it seems as if we are divided and ununified. We can change that. If we use our voices. No violence no weapons. Our voices. To use our voice in democracy we need to stand up for ourselves, we need to be heard, and we need to be kind.
I want to be noticed and paid attention to. Do you? It is hard to be noticed if we refuse to stand up for ourselves. Having your ideas be noticed does not just happen. No one hears you if you do not speak, no one takes any action if we do not stand up for what we believe.
We need to be heard. Standing up does nothing for us if no one is listening. We need to listen to each other. When we hear and share similar opinions we can stand up together. When we stand together we are stronger, louder, and greater. We can be heard and we can make a difference.
Although we may be fighting to be heard and standing up for ourselves, what difference can it make if we are rude? Kindness makes all the difference. Would you listen to someone who was rude and mistreating you? Someone who is lying to your face just to get the higher power? I know that is not what I want. Kindness goes a long way and if you are kind to someone else that person might do the same for another person and so on. Before you know it, one small group of people standing up and fighting for their right to be heard with kindness will become a whole democracy standing together with kindness.
We can stand up, we can hear or want to be heard and we can be kind. And it all starts with you. In order for us to come together you need to act. Act in kindness, stand up for yourself and hear others. Because we all want to be heard and the best way to be heard is to be kind.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT
Love is patient and kind.
Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.
It does not demand its own way.
It is not irritable,
and it keeps no record of being wronged.
It does not rejoice about injustice
but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
Love never gives up, never loses faith,
is always hopeful,
and endures through every circumstance.
