To Be Known

Updated: May 7, 2023

The other week a coworker was having a down day. One thing after another went wrong from her chaotic classroom to her personal life and top it off, she was concerned about what others were thinking of her. This last part made me pause.

I have days when I am so content with who I am that I could care less whether you like me or not. Then there are the other days, when like my coworker, I care deeply about your opinion of me.

The TRUTH, the One who knows me the best, the One who created me is really the only One whose opinion matters. He is the One who thought of me before I was even me, He knows me. Psalm 139 gives a beautiful description of how well we are known.

Psalm 139: 13-14

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

I have a group of friends that I see once a year and we know each other. We have been friends since college and now live states apart. We can go a full year and when we get together we each fill our own unique roles. I'm not going to name names but one is goofy, one is basically a Joanna Gaines' twin, one is artistic and creative, one seems to have a knack for the craziest stories and then there’s the serious one (ahem this might be me).

We are all different and I love that! How boring would it be if we were all the same? Our get-togethers would be stale if we were all the serious one and if we were all the goofy one we would never get together in the first place.

It feels so good to be known. As well as my friends know me, my Creator knows all of me. I was known by Him even before I was created. On the worst of my worst days and the good days too I can find my place of belonging with Him who created me.
