The Ultimate Backpack Guy

I brought my daughters to watch their cousins run at a cross country meet. The weather was going to be warm, humid, and cloudy with a chance of rain. As the designated family planner, I packed an oversized red backpack with everything we could possibly need: hand sanitizer, tissues, wipes, snacks, gum, water, bug spray, an umbrella, sweatshirts, hair ties, cards, paper and crayons. I like to be well prepared for every situation.

My backpack reminds me of Franklin “Mouse” Finbar from the Jumanji Movies. He is the backpack guy and lugs around a massive backpack that is filled with what is needed for all of the problems they will encounter. The characters are confronted with locked doors and multiple adversaries at a time. I find it interesting that nobody thinks to go through all of the items in the backpack first and then make a plan. I certainly would have gone through that backpack to know exactly what was in it and probably would’ve organized it too.

Philippians 4:19

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

God is the Ultimate Backpack Guy. He has all of the supplies I could ever need. I don't need to carry them around with me or know what is inside His backpack. I don't need to know which trials I will face. I simply need to trust the Backpack Guy, just like "Mouse" Finbar's friends did. They never asked him for candy, a new house, or millions of dollars, and he didn't have those items in his backpack. His friends spent time with him and interacted with him outside of their times of needs (there were a few breaks in the action to just be friends). They were a team. Likewise, God wants me to be His friend, to be with Him in the day to day of life, to laugh and relate outside of times of trouble. The Ultimate Backpack Guy is more than a supplier during times of trouble; He is my friend.

Today set a reminder on your watch or phone to go off at set intervals during the day to connect with The Ultimate Backpack Guy. Say "hi", say a prayer, be a friend and know that He is able to supply for all of your needs.
