Stand Firm in Every Season

As fall fades into winter, I find myself feeling less excited than my husband, who’s already gearing up for ice fishing and snowmobiling. Snowflakes and shorter days signal a new season, but I’d much rather hold on to the warmth of autumn—or better yet, summer. This seasonal shift mirrors my spiritual life lately. I’ve been consistently reading my Bible each morning, but it’s been a while since I’ve really felt God speaking to me.

The other day, while reading Isaiah 7, one phrase caught my attention: “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all” (Isaiah 7:9). The context? King Ahaz of Judah is terrified of an impending attack. God sends Isaiah to reassure him and remind him to stand firm in faith rather than letting fear rule.

That verse stuck with me. Even though I’m not facing an invading army, I’ve had my own moments of fear, doubt, and spiritual dryness. In those times, I’ve realized that standing firm in faith doesn’t always mean hearing God loudly or feeling deeply inspired. Sometimes, it’s about continuing to seek Him, trusting that His promises are true even when emotions aren’t there to back it up.

The Bible is full of reminders to stand firm in faith:

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13)

“Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground…” (Ephesians 6:13)

“Resist him, standing firm in the faith…” (1 Peter 5:9)

Yesterday, I reread these verses and my own need to stand firm, trusting God in the quiet moments. Then today, I opened my reading plan and found this verse waiting for me:

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)

It felt like God whispering a personal encouragement to keep standing. To remind me that even when I don’t feel it, the time I spend seeking Him and doing His work is not wasted.

So this week, I’m holding on to this truth: God is faithful, even when we don’t feel strong. Standing firm in faith isn’t about being perfect; it’s about staying rooted and trusting that He is always with us.

Will you stand with me this week? Choose faith over fear, consistency over complacency, and trust over doubt. Even in the quiet seasons, God is with us.
