Pause, Be Positive!

Around Valentine’s Day I worked through The Love Dare with a couple of friends. The book gives challenges over the course of 40 days that provide opportunities to love your spouse. Well the first three days you are supposed to avoid saying anything negative!! I joked that my husband had the benefit of the silent treatment for 3 days. It was so hard. When I stopped to think about what I was saying there was a big chunk that was just plain negative.

During the three days of avoiding the negative I started to tell myself, “Pause, Be Positive!” Just by giving myself some extra time before I spoke I was able to refrain from the negative and shift my focus to the positive. I also learned that sometimes I just needed to be silent.

Philippians 2:14-16a

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.

Over the weekend I had another opportunity to put the pause into practice. I ran a really tough race and could've focused on all that was going wrong and there was A LOT going wrong but I paused. My husband told me before the race to have fun, so in the middle of my really hard race I paused for a goofy picture. I'm not sure whether it was the meds kicking in or my attitude change but the race started to get better.

This week I am focusing on the positive habit. I want to be one who is remembered as one who shines "like a star in the sky." Join me by taking a moment to Pause, Be Positive!
