5:00 a.m. alarm, rain on the radar and I needed to get my run in. My typical morning I get up, make coffee, read my bible and pray, then run or start my day. This morning the rain was shaking up my schedule. To avoid getting drenched I hopped out of bed and hit the road running in 10 minutes. After I made it home, beating the rain, I did a little strength workout, stretched, made my coffee, took a shower, made breakfast for my 6 year old and was about to start cleaning. My day was going strong and I had not “sat at His feet.” I made myself stop and sit.
Luke 10:38-42
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Most days my to-do list is longer than I can accomplish. I like to start off my day at the feet of Jesus and then go to my to-do list. On this particular morning the temptation was strong to just keep doing rather than take the time to sit.
Do you have a specific time you sit with Jesus each day? Make plan: pick a specific time of day, challenge yourself to sit at the same time each day for a week.
