Week 6
2/26/2023
VACATION!!! I plan to run 30 miles total this week and then pickup training the following week. We will be hiking in Arizona, so I will put on miles, just a different kind of exercise. My husband loves to charge the uphills and I like to soar down.
Easy 4 today, we fly out Tuesday and I’ll try to get a couple more runs in before we leave. Today I also ordered UCAN, to see if it can help my nausea. It’s a slow release carb that’s supposed to be more gentle on your stomach and avoid the sugar crash that typical fueling causes.

I worked this morning, can home and quickly changed to crank out a 10.5 mile run. My heart rate was great and showed this as an easy run, my legs felt tired, which I’m blaming on my 18 miler. I wasn’t packed for our trip and had one hour to throw everything in my bag before picking up the kids from school to bring them to grandma and grandpa’s before heading to the airport. In hindsight I should’ve done some packing yesterday.
After a hectic bit of packing, dropping the kids off at my parents, we were on our way. One benefit to having a husband who travels for work it that he know the ins and outs of airports. I'm just along for the ride and try to keep up as he power walk through the airport.

You can plan a vacation but you can’t control the weather. It’s been cooler than average in Arizona. We drove through large pools of water on the interstate. In Minnesota we have some drainage systems on the road to help the water clear off the road. Well, holy moly, the water was NOT draining of the road and we hydroplaned several times. We also saw a vehicle in the ditch that had rolled over. We finally made it to our resort late last night, checking in during a torrential downpour! This morning it is 35 degrees but at least the rain has stopped. We should have some great hiking weather, not so great pool weather.
3/2/2023-afternoon
I snuck in a 6 mile run before we left for a day of hiking. When I looked at the foothills there was SNOW!!! We were able to put on 11.5 miles hiking. Unfortunately my husband’s heels grew some pretty nasty blisters, so we’ll see what the next couple of days bring.

Finishing out vacations with some easy runs in the morning and relaxing by the pool in the afternoon. Only one day of hiking due to nasty blisters. It was amazing to get away from the stress of life for a few days. This was a not so healthy week of nutrition, back to making better food choices next week. I ran a total of 27.7 miles this week, decided to take an extra rest day because I had a little shin irritation.
