"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." – Colossians 3:12
Walking through the stores this time of year, the aisles are filled with red and pink hearts, candies, and stuffed animals. But showing love and kindness doesn’t have to be limited to one day or tied to material gifts. We are called to clothe ourselves in kindness—not just on Valentine’s Day, but every day. This week is a great opportunity to be intentional in spreading love through small, meaningful actions.

My daughters and I walk through the teacher parking lot each day on our way into school. One of the vehicles has a sticker that says, "I hope something good happens to you today." When we see that car, I’ll say that phrase to them, and at the end of the day, we talk about the good that happened to us. Being kind can be as simple as sharing a kind phrase.
Here are some ideas to spread kindness this week:
Say thank you – A simple thank-you to a cashier, coworker, or family member can brighten their day.
Hold the door for someone – A small action that shows consideration for others.
Send a message to a loved one – Let them know why you appreciate them. Words of encouragement go a long way.
Give a sincere compliment – When you notice something good, say it! Encouragement is a powerful gift.
Help with snow removal – If it snows in your area, clear off a neighbor’s car or shovel their sidewalk.
Leave a kind note – Stick a note of encouragement in a coworker’s office, your child’s lunchbox, or even a stranger’s windshield.
Let someone go ahead of you – Whether in line at the grocery store or in traffic, a little patience can be a big act of kindness.
Donate items – Gather clothes, books, or food items and donate them.
Smile and make eye contact – A genuine smile can lift someone up when they're having one of those days.
Pray for someone – Whether they know it or not, lifting someone up in prayer is a powerful way to care for them.
Kindness isn’t measured by expensive gifts—it’s about seeing others and choosing to act with love. Join me this Valentine’s week as we look for ways to show the love of Jesus in both big and small ways.
What act of kindness will you choose today?
