January 2023

Updated: Apr 14, 2023

Race season 2023 is filled with a BIG GOAL. I'm hesitant to say it out loud but I’m aiming to qualify for Boston.

Last race season was hard, I injured my hamstring the day before Grandma’s Marathon in June and was unable to race.  I logged 4 months of training and over 600 miles to prepare for the race. Then I battled months of rehab to get to a level of running without pain, was so discouraged to say the least.

In November and December I finally reached a level of maintaining 30 miles per week, only to be hit with shingles.  Seriously, I thought I was too young but apparently not.  Lethargy and nausea had me down and out for 8 days of little to no exercise.  My planned 35 mile week to set myself up for Fargo Marathon training was a no go.  I was far from healthy enough to tackle those miles and was barely able to squeak out 14 miles total throughout week.

My base week was scheduled to kick off the third week of January and I gutted it out but my heart rate was high, everything felt hard and my legs were struggling with high hamstring irritation and a tight right hip flexor.

Race season 2023 was off to a rough start but I don't give up easily.
