The other day I stumbled across one of my old Bibles – duct taped together, pages torn and tattered, verses highlighted and underlined passages, post-it notes scattered throughout. Lately, I’ve been reading my Bible on my phone, but there’s something about holding the physical book that brings its words to life in a whole new way. As I flipped through the worn-out pages, my eyes fell on Psalm 63, a chapter that I had marked years ago. The blue ink underlined verses 1-2, reminding me of a phase in life when I volunteered, traveled on mission trips, and witnessed God’s power and glory in the sanctuary.
Psalm 63:1-2
O God, you are my God;
I earnestly search for you.
My soul thirsts for you;
my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land
where there is no water.
I have seen you
in your sanctuary
and gazed upon your
power and glory.
Life has changed since those days. The youthful energy has transformed into a different kind of busyness - volleyball games, school concerts, and various social media platforms have replaced my previous activities. Instead of being actively involved with church ministries, I find myself seated in bleachers and auditoriums, cheering for my own children and connecting with others online.
In this evolving scene, where my Bible reading has shifted to a digital screen and my social interactions have migrated to virtual spaces, the essence of my connection with God remains unaltered. Just as my old Bible still holds the power to stir my soul, these new avenues of social interaction serve as windows through which I continue to seek God.
Life may have changed, but God remains the same. His presence can be felt not only in the sanctuary of the church but also in the everyday moments of our lives, even on the bleachers. While the methods of seeking Him have evolved, the pursuit remains.
Find peace in the truth that God’s presence is available to us beyond physical and digital activities. He is reaching out to us wherever we are, reminding us that even in the tattered pages of life, His love and guidance remain. Ask God to show Himself to you this week as you seek Him.
