Be Present in His Presence

Updated: Aug 25

Teacher workshops start today. It is the official end of summer for school staff and as I head to this meeting my goal is to be present. This will be my 17th back to school workshop. We will have usual updates, welcome new staff, years of service awards and of course the keynote speaker. Now to be honest I have had years when I show up to these meetings physically but mentally I am still on the beach or making my grocery list.

A couple of years ago a co-worker shared a strategy with me that transformed workshops. He said that he searches for one point from the presentation that he can apply. This was a genius idea! It was a scavenger hunt for information that caused me to be present throughout the day in search of my one application point.

This one point scavenger hunt has also helped me to be present in my time with God. Each morning I set aside time to start my day with God. There are times that I go through the motions but am checked out mentally, just like my back to school workshops. I started to write down one point from my morning time with God. The funny thing is that when I write down the one point it shows up repeatedly through out the day.

Jeremiah 29:13

You will seek me

and find me

when you seek me

with all your heart.

As I was writing this devotional the song First by Lauren Daigle played on Pandora, confirming to me to continue on this spiritual scavenger hunt for Him, to Seek Him First.

Be present with God today, search for what He is saying to you, then write down one point that stuck out to you. Reflect on this point throughout the day and see how God is present with you today.
